I`m a Gm guy`s and i know nothing at all about mustang in
general. But i`m looking for a stang 2 years ago.
I saw a mach 1 03 and 04 and of course the 05, both looks
nice. The used mach 1 is cheaper but my question is .
Do i`m better with a mach 1 or the 05 Gt.
Thanks appreciate!

Driven friends Mach 1 and own an 05 GT. It like both cars a lot.

If you want to build it, the Mach has a stronger engine and auto trans. As far as the over all car itself the 05 GT hands down in my opinon. Manual trans is better if you want to build the engine. I sure others opinons will differ some.

Well the Mach1 will be worth more in the long run and the 05's are really nice and fast, almost as fast as a Mach1 IMO, so it's up to you what you want. Both are great and very reliable.

I swear several posts say the 05 is just as fast as the Mach 1. Anyway, I like the looks of the 05 better which is why I bought it instead of the Azure Blue Mach 1 the dealer had on the lot.

Uhm, the auto on the 05 GT is probably the better of the two, and stronger engine is wrong too, it puts out more HP, but the 05's "new" engine can probably be coaxed to do more.

Well, one thing that you hafta give the Mach 1 a nod on for mods. it's a Cobra motor sans the SCer, so you could slap one on and go over 8-9 PSI without having to worry about internals. Not so with the 05.

Be specific....
If you're talking 03/04 motor, no its not.

Well i would go with the 05 hands down , As for the mach 1 engine vs cobra, theres a big difference . the Cobra is hand assembled and is all aluminum, where the mach 1 has a cast iron block. The 05 is all aluminum and will stand up allot better since everything with expand and contract at the same level not like the cast block

just my 2 cents

Ok you guys gotta REALLY be specific with your years and your engines.

THe pre 03 cobra was an aluminum engine 4v 4.6L
the 03/04s are not aluminum...they are iron.

pre 05 GTs are 2v IRON
05+ GTS are 3v ALUMINUM

Mach1 03/4s are ALUMINUM

Will the 05 stand up to boost?
Sure, but how much?

The 03/04s have an IRON block for many reasons....longevity/strength
but also comes the weight penalty. Ford said it grenaded many aluminum engines tested for the engine, and thats why they went with FE.
Other people think they cheaped out and went the cheaper route, using iron instead of aluminum.

The Mach is an interesting package but I went with the 2005 because of driveablity. In my various travels I rented several 02/03/04 Mustangs and didn't care for the entry access and cabin arrangement. The handling was irregular as many have pointed out and wheel hop was prevalent.

All of that goes away with the 2005. It's easy to get into, the cabin is relatively spacious, plenty of headroom and the seats are very comfortable - especially the driver seat with power lumbar! If you get an '05, you must get the IUP - it makes all the difference in the world. The car drives like it's on rails. It's no luxobarge from a ride standpoint but it's significantly better than the previous model.

I don't plan much in the way of engine mods - likely just a CAI. But my GT goes like a bat out of heck as is! And I love the auto trans. I like to say that with its five speeds, it has a gear for every occasion! This combo also gets 23 mpg on the highway.

Happy choosing!!

Without a doubt you must go with a '05 Mustang GT. Its a totally different car. Inside and out. The HP is about the same but thats is about it. The inside of a '05 is top quality as a luxury car, where any other Mustang before it is very poor. I would say worse than a Taurus if not the same. Just test drive the 05 and that will make your dicision in a second. I had a 2000 Mustang and let me say that I was very bored with the interior. Not to mention the exterior. Its just beautiful. The 99-04 body style will be soon forgotten plus and everyone and there cousin has one. It aint nothing anymore to see a granny in it. Not that this may not happen with th'05's but its just one good looking car with a touch of history to it.
