questions about drop-shipping ordered vehicle

Have you done this? Why did you choose this route? What was your experience (good/bad)? What did it cost?

I haven't done it, but I have researched it.

Reasons to use it:
1. You may be able to get a better deal ordering from a dealer that is 2000 miles away than from a local dealer. This often occurred when the S-197s first came out. Few dealers would take X-plan. If you could find 1 anywhere, you could order from him and have it drop shipped to your local dealer. Currently, you may find a dealer that will take invoice on a Shelby GT or MSRP on a GT 500. Order it from him, and have drop shipped to your local dealer.
2. From what I've heard the cost varies from $150-600 depending on what the local dealer charges.

Best place to get your answer is from one of our TMS Ford salesmen.

I had mine drop shipped. I live in Alabama, but bought the car from a dealer in NY. My experience was very good overall. I had it shipped to where I work and even got to drive off the hauler myself. (see whole story here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2381545/2) In my case, it didn't cost any extra since we had a Ford drop ship code.

As for why I had it drop shipped, I ordered my car in Nov. of '04 and back then my local dealer was asking $2K over sticker for the "new" Mustangs. I bought mine for $700 under invoice. Saved myself around $5300, IIRC.

I do it all the time for different companies. I sell cars to people here in Chattanooga and ship them to wherever theyre needed. I dont know about dropshipping for retail customers, but assume its not that different. The dealership doing the delivery charges a small fee for their courtesy delivery. its usually anywhere from 150-450bucks.

And don't forget, if the car comes straight from the factory, it'll need to be PDI'd by the dealership. That's about another $100.
