Question about oil and filter changes

I just had a quick question about the ford maintenance prices. How much would an oil change for a mustang GT cost at a ford dealership if they are putting in fully synthetic oil? Some nutcase was trying to charge me $68.95 for an oil and filter change saying it was because its fully synthetic oil.

That's rediculous. When I go to Goodyear, it's not synthetic, but it's only about $20. $70 is unbelieveable.

Full synthetic is $6-7 a qt.. 6 Qts + filter + their retarded labor costs for a 2 minute job.. It's sad, but I can see them charging that.

Or you could go to Oreilly's and get some full synthetic Valvoline or Quaker State for free after rebate. Then get a $3 Motorcraft filter and a $30 set of Rhino Ramps and do it yourself. This is one of the easiest cars ever to change oil on.

It sounds like one of the usual "Supreme Maximo Signature Service Ambassador Premium First-Class Care Package" deals.
They "top off all fluids, vacuum the car, wash exterior glass, wipe down the seat belts, etc..."

I brought an FRPP filter to a Mobil 1 joint and had them change it out to full synthetic, without the extra services (and taking out the filter $), and I think it was around $50 or so. Slightly more than 6 quarts, BTW...

So, 7 quarts at $6 each is already $42, no filter or labor yet (Is it worth a few bucks NOT to do it youself? It is to me, but you decide for you).

Wacky, I had my oil changed at a dealer using the FRPP filter and it was $35. Not sure what it would have been with synthetic but I doubt it would be $35 more!

I just changed mine last month and went with the usual Mobil 1 at Walmart. The 5 quart jug was $19.95 plus a one quart bottle found at $3.50 in the clearance aisle. and a Motorcraft filter at $3.67. Rhino ramps and a lttle driveway time. Total cost around $29 with tax. Very easy to change too the filter is right up front where you can get a grip on it.

Do it yourself!!! Besides the cost savings, you will feel good about the care given to your Mustang and that YOU did it!

I have never in my 19 years of driving taken my cars anywhere to have the oil changed.

Contact your local dealer,

There are 2 different Motorcraft oils now, 5-20 synthetic blend, and a
5-20 full synthetic Motorcraft available.

Your local dealer should be able to fill you in on them.
