Tow Ring Tech?

First off, congrats on the season so far. Watching the S197's race is inspiring to say the least, and is what tipped the scales for me in deciding to purchase one back in '05.

After a weekend at Summit Point and having a near off-track experience on turn 10(and seeing a few off-track ventures over the weekend) I realized I'd better think about recovery points. To my shock, there really aren't any convenient ones. The last thing I want is for the recovery team to hook a strap around a control arm to yank me out of the gravel.

Can you provide a source for the folding towing eyes that most of the S197's use? Also, how are they mounted to the bumper--are they bolted through with a backing plate? Thanks for any info!

The tow eyes actually come from Ford Racing / Multimatic. They are welded to the bumper beams front and rear, and fitted through slot cut into the bumper covers, and then the ring itself is bolted to the bumper brace, to make the "folding" part of the ring.

Not a bolt-on in the driveway for me, but I'll give Ford Racing a call and see if they will sell me the pieces. Thanks for the info!

UPDATE: Instead of calling Ford Racing, I emailed Multimatic and they are indeed the manufacturers/sellers for these tow eyes. The nice surprise is that they offer a bolt-on version. A day after they got my money order (they aren't set up for credit card orders), I got a nice package from FedEx.

Thanks again for the info, Rara, and hopefully these things will never get put to use...

Yeah, I can't wait to get them mounted. My plan is to use some sort of 1/2" or so standoff on my rear license plate. That should give plenty of clearance to cover the bracket with my plate for around town driving. For the front, I'll get one of the Ford plastic license plate brackets (I think they come on the Shelby and/or CS editions) and use that to cover it. Then on track weekends, both plates come off and I'm ready to go.

I'll post some pics after I have a chance to do the install.

Got your pm on the other forum and replied.

For all others, just google Multimatic and call or email their contacts--they were very responsive.

Regarding the install--just get these welded. Seriously, they are not a true bolt-in and took a fair amount of garage fabrication to get a solid mount. If I did it over again, I would have just notched the bumper for them, then taken the bumper beam to a local welder (although now I have a welder...).
