NHRA Funny Car season finale
Mustang's driver Robert Hight won the championship.
Another Mustang driver Ashley Force Hood finished second.

It was great!! He almost did not get in the chase.....

That is highly debatable.
On slow motion DVR, the view from the blimp appeared more like the rear end breaking lose and then John correcting, whereas the track view (the one shown repeatedly) made it appear more like John pulled the car.
In the end the officials ruled no foul play... just like close calls in football or baseball the officials have the final say and Robert's win stands.
Besides, Robert beats John all the time. Look at all the track records he holds the last few years - speed and ET - especially since 1000'.
As for the Cruz boys, shame on them talking on camera behind John's back before he was even out of the car. Yet they were so nice pre-race.
