I have always liked the look of the hood pins that the Grand Am FRC500 cars use. To me they seem more subtle because of the smaller size and they will keep the hood on the front of the car where it belongs. (not in the rear view mirror
)
Anyone know who makes these or where you can get them?

Thanks Rick,
Are yours rivited or screwed on? Any issues you are aware of when installing them? I assume 2 pins is sufficeint to hold the hood on for non racing applications.

When I got my car from Steeda they were installed already. They are screwed on and I have not had any problems to speak of. My car is the torch red press car from 2005 and numerous people have opened and closed the hood and the pins still look good. I would say two in the front are sufficient. I have had this car well over 100 and not lost the hood yet with only two.

I do not recommend removing the stock hood latch mechanism on a street car, even if using the hood pins. The aerodynamics of the 05+ Mustang are such that a tremendous pressure differential exists on either side of the hood, and two hood pins are not sufficient to hold it down on thier own; and neither is the sheetmetal structure to which the hood pins get mounted.

I would only use the hood pins in conjunction with the stock latch. It never even occured to me to remove the stock latch. Whats your opinion on the twist type pins? I don't particualarly like the look but they appear to be very simple to use and if they keep the hood on then they serve their function.

I've never used the twist type myself, but they don't seem to be as "positive" in terms of ensuring retention as a locking pin style.
A friend of mine used some really cool pin latches on his SVT Contour, I'll see if I can dig up some info on them, I think you would like them.
