I would guess that a "street" version (assuming we get one) would be less than the 400hp. All the more reason to suspect that the 2011 Mustang GT will be less than 400hp, as well, as Ford wouldn't/shouldn't step on the toes of a high dollar race-only car with the "same" 5.0L 4V V8.

Not necessarily. Grand-Am rules limit horsepower-to-weight ratio.

This Boss may (probably) have the 5.0 Cammer and not the new 5.0 Coyote.

They really need to produce street cars with "competitive" power numbers. I know there's talk of 400 hp 5.0 liter motors, but until it hits the street, I not a believer.

Also, Ford has no problem stepping on the toes of a high dollar race car in the next model year. The 1996 Cobra had 5 more horsepower than the 1995 Cobra R model.

It's not unheard of for a race car to make less power than the street car version to fit into a race class. The new GT-2 Corvette C6R gives up close to 200 hp compared to a ZR-1 street car.

With a completely new design in motor. 95 R = 351 OHV motor, while 96+ cobra had 4.6L DOHC 32v motor. Apples and Oranges

That would be my first guess as well. The 5.0 cammer is what the Koni cars are running currently I believe and put out around 400hp from what we've been told. No numbers have been quoted or dynoed that I have seen released to the public.

As Im sure you know there are lots of items that make a successful racer more than HP. The grand AM package is a option over the Boss- it includes special ratios in the transmission as well as some very expensive shocks -Data acquisition and lots more. I hear the 2011 is 400hp and this motor may well be stock in the boss.
