Ford Mustang "auditions" for ALMS
#1
Many thanks and mad props to lmsr.net for the scoop on this one; definitely a good source of info for fans of sports car racing--lots of updates and often. Now to the nitty gritty:
Looks like the ALMS is evaluating the Ford Mustang for possible homologation in GT. According to lmsr.net:
"Much to my surprise, I was told by one of the Ford guys that this car was doing laps for another reason. It was essentially eing "showcased" for the ALMS. Nothing specific on its future plans but Ford says that the ALMS wanted to see it run (nice way of saying lets get a performance baseline on the clock.)"
From the size of those bodacious hood vents in the pics, it looks like they've definitely addressed the underhood-air-pressure-buildup issue found on the 'Stangs at speed. Looks like this one is prepped by Multimatic. Not sure what the weight specs are on the comp. model, but they're definitely going to need to address the power/wt. ratio if they're gonna run with the GT-3 Porsches.
