The 2006 Grand American Cup season starts January 5 with Test Days at Daytona through January 7.

Of the 38 cars on the entry list for the GS class, 15 are Mustangs.

Blackforest fields five Mustangs, with David Empringham listed as one of the drivers of the #4 car. Empringham won the 2005 Grand-Am Cup GS Class Championship driving for Multimatic Motorsports. Multimatic has no vehicles on the list.

As far as I know, they are all either FR500Cs or GTs except the two Rehagen Racing 2004 SVT Cobras. The difference in a FR500C and a GT is that you can order a complete FR500C from Ford Racing. Some teams, like Rehagen, bought a body-in-white and built a racer from the ground up. It uses the same Cammer 5.0 in the FR500C, but it is technically not an FR500C.

Test Days Session 1 Results
Looks like this will definately be another year to watch GAC. There might end up being a Muscle Car War because there is a GTO running and it posted the second fastest time on the first day of testing which is still some of the fastest times out there. Hopefully they are manufacturer backed cars. This is going to be a great series: Mustangs, GTOs, M3s, 996s & 997s.
Also according to the schedule most of the races are going to be broadcast live NM I was looking at the Rolex schedule. :bang:

Interesting that Terry Borcheller is down from DP class and driving a cup car in testing.
Wonder if this is just a one race thing or is he just getting more track time?
Here's a story on the GTO team:

I wonder if the GTO is going to have an advantage over most everyone since they are allowed to be lighter than even the M3s who are at 3150.

Yeah thats surprising about the GTO getting such a weight break.

I'm sure after they destroy everything on the track at Daytona GAC will take a little away until throughout the year until everyone else is competetive with them.
Not only the weight but the gearing breaks to

I don't pay close attention to racing (hardly watch TV = no need for cable), just glean info from the net and mags when possible, but here goes, does the weight "penalty" system work like JGTC's? And if I read the posts correctly, why don't they "reset" at the beginning of the next season? The GTO appears to have too much of a weight advantage in addition to a displacement advantage. Wouldn't it be even scarier if they ran the LS7, since the "Cammer" is not exactly a "production" engine to begin with? I don't even want to think of the aero advantages the inherent in the other cars compared to the Mustang...

Any reason as to why Multimatic is not fielding anything this year? (maybe they're just not for the test days?)

if they're racing now then they must be close. Atleast I'd think.

Well they'ed have to loose 700 lbs to below the minimum weight, if that's possible then those cars are crazy heavy for no good reason.
