windshield repair

Is there a product, easily available, that I can use to fix a crack that runs all the way across my windshield? I have taken it to a few repair places and they wont do it (the chip is through to the second layer). I dont want to replace it if I dont have to, but it is pretty annoying to have the crack in my field of vision.

You have to replace it. There are places that can fix rock chips and small dings but not cracks that are a large as the one you describe. Check with your insurance as most offer small deductibles for windshield replacement.

I have to agree. After the crack is over 6 inches long even the pro's won't touch it!!!!!!

David and Scott are both right. I've been down this road before. They can repair a chip or small crack (6" or less) but not one that runs all the way through your winshield. Also, in most cities and states you can and will get a ticket for it eventually. If you live in a state that has inspections (unlike Oklahoma) your car won't pass inspection.

We dont have inspections here, and people go through windshields like Kleenex b/c of all the construction trucks and they sand the roads with gravel. I waived the insurance b/c the deductible is so high here for windshields, it was pretty much the same price as a new one. I had the car 2 days before I got the crack. I was wondering if there was any sort of bonding gel that I could find at an auto parts store or something that I could fill the crack with, not so much to repair as to make it look a bit better.

In California, you can't repair a chip that is in the driver's direct vision regardless of how small it is.

Be prepared to get an aftermarket windshield if replaced. Most insurance companies opt to go the cheapest way out. 90% of the time they won't replace it with a Ford OEM windshield.
