My car has not arrived yet. It's gonna take a little longer than expected because I changed my color choice. I originaly ordered black but I came to my senses looking back how much of a pain I had keeping it clean and free of water spotsnot to mention every little imperfection is magnified a thousand times( dings, swirls, scratches, nicks, orange peal and so on)
Anyway- by the time I get my car there will be snow on the ground. It's gonna be tough not driving it and might take it out on clear days when there is absolutely NO salt on the pavement. I always put my stangs away for the winter, but this will be the first time I have ever bought a stang during the winter season. I guess there are a lot of new stang owners with this delema?

Yea, if and when I get mine it'll be stored during the winter months. Right now I'm thinking about waiting to get it till Feb or so since I'm already storing one Mustang over the winter. That is unless anyone's interested in buying a '68 vert?

Rust is caused by water, oxygen, and an electrolyte (salt). Cut out the oxygen and you're set.

I had the same dilema. I was going to keep my 2003 Jeep for the winter and store the Mustang, especially since the dealer messed up and I won't get it until December. Then I thought screw it. I have always driven my other mustangs in the winter so why not this one. I don't plan on having it forever. I'll be trading in the Jeep. I'll also put snow tires on the factory rims, sell the original rubber and buy larger rims and tires for the summer.

Why?
1.If you don't get it done by the dealer it can void your warranty
2. It has been proven that if you don't have it completely removed and reapplied every 2 years the amount of rust damage is greater than if you never got the undercoating done
3. A lot of people get the oilbased sprays applied that consists of various chemicals including recycled transmission fluid. All it takes is going over 1 snow drift and it wipes most of the stuff off.
I have never got it applied to any of my cars and use to work at a place that sold the stuff. I know friends that have had it applied and their cars are rusting out more than mine.

I have to agree with 2005miuzzy it's a pain to live in up-state NY and own a sports car. Put the '02 vert away last night and when I get it out next spring......well it will be time to get that brand new hot '05 vert.

Mine will get put to winter bed the first day of salt as well. It's not worth driving in the snow here in ohio and my 90 miles a day from home to work and back has already beaten the crap out of my little corolla. Not going to do that to the stang (at least not this year)....Got the car cover coming, will disconnect the battery or put it on a battery tender like the harleys (don't drive them in the winter either)... They all come out in march/april. Will put up on blocks as well to save the tires. I like to start the car at least once a week and let it run for 10-20 minutes. That helps keep the oil from sludging too bad and helps burn the moisture out of the oil as well. Then I will change to Mobil 1 full synthetic when it comes out again.
