Washing a car with steam?

Hey TMS detailing gurus, I've got a question for you!

It's 34 degrees outside and all my hoses are put away and I really don't want to drag them up from the basement and then freeze my butt off washing my car, but there's snow and slush all over the roads so I don't want to drive to a carwash either.

So, I have a steamer that I've used for detailing the engine before on my car and I was wondering what your thoughts were on using steam to wash a car? Can it be done? How would I go about applying soap and so on?

I was thinking of filling a bucket with car wash soap and hot water and then doing one panel at a time with steam - wash - steam - dry, any thoughts on that?

Thanks!

No you need water to wash the truck and get all the loose crap off....and you should never use steam to clean a motor....it will find its way into the electrical connections, condense and make a hell of a mess. Just get a bucket full of hot water and your favorite vehicle soap and wash it by hand with a microfiber mit or sponge. I personally like the mits.

I have, I was just looking for a solution I could do with the tools I had available to me, rather than order something and wait a week for it.

Ive seen guys steam their cars before but i wouldnt recommend it. Just doesnt look like the safest paint treatment to me.
Just take a bucket of hot water, some car wash soap, and a microfiber wash mitt. I would order some waterless wash as well. Croftgate USA has a great line-up for just about everything your car needs and gotta say also have amazing results! Another good waterless wash is the Ultima waterless concentrate. Check out autogeek.net and browse around

Hope my blabbering helps!

Can be found at local auto parts stores or Walmart.

I've used it for touch-ups between washes and it works good, I've never used it to do the whole car though. I keep a bottle in my "road detail" toolbox in my trunk.
