Tree sap? nooooo!

It appears that my awesomely great day has been ruined. I decided to wrap up my wonderful day by washing my stang, and upon drying my car I noticed some sort of sticky good on my rear passenger side fender.

The goo appears to be tree sap or something similar (I don't know what it COULD be, other than tree sap) and runs about 3 inches down the side of my otherwise spotless car. I tried using both the automotive goo-gone as well as dish soap, but can't get it off (I'm guessing it's been there long enough to have completely dried)!

Does anyone (please!) have any suggestions on how I can get rid of this sticky stuff without having to go to a detail shop???

Happy 4th of July! Hope your day finished better than mine.

I have used WD 40 and a rag so it could soak.

common rubbing alcohol works very well with out a lot of effort, just have to re-wax that area after cuz all the wax will be gone as well...
