Thumbs up

I was washing my car yesterday when I heard a "Sizzle" sound coming from the engine compartment. Sounded as if the water was going in the engine and hitting something hot and the water was evaperating . It was a cold day and I even saw steam coming from the engine compartment. Has anyone heard this too??. Is this something I should worry about???

it probably wasn't going inside the engine per se- it probably just hit something hot.... unless your car doesn't run- i wouldn't worry about it- but at the same time... dont go dumping cold water on a hot engine too....

Not to sound like a jerk, but had you just finished driving it? Engine blocks take ahile to cool down, and the colder it is outside the more steam you see.

It was probably water on the exhaust.... but like Sara said, be careful with hitting your hot engine with cold water. .... especially since these engines are all aluminum. Iron won't be effected quite as much, but it doesn't take much to warp aluminum..... plus, how would you like it if someone bathed you in cold water... just drive the car inside and draw a nice warm bath for it. .... be sure to wash behind it's ears.

I took my to a wash station yesterday. I power washed the whole car to get some salt off it. When I sprayed the hood off, I did see steam comng out after I stopped spraying that area. I am not sure if it goes down between the hood and side panel, then it hits something hot.

That's exactly what I was talking about.

There is a slight gap between the hood and the cowel panel. Water being sprayed onto the front windshield gets deflected and makes its way under there. The Sizzle you hear is from the water hitting the headers. Next time you finish washing your car, pop the hood and you will see where the water is getting onto the engine.

I'd be concerned if my breaks were that hot.... during breaking, they get to temperatures in excess of 500 degrees F, but they should cool relatively quickly.... I wouldn't expect that to happen unless there was a 1/4 mile drag strip that ended in the carwash bay and I just got done makin' a hot run, jumped outta the car and went straight for the hose.

depends on your breaking, you can be a hard braker or a soft braker, it all depends

I run hard, and I've never hit my breaks with water and boiled it.... I see what you're sayin', I'm just thinkin' it makes more sense that it's the exhaust manifolds.
