PTFE vs. wax

Is it agreed by all that PTFE protection is not better than a good periodic waxing? I spotted the 5-star shine post in this section and it seemed its pretty much agreed this product is garbage.

Can anybody comment on this? I believe this is the product that the dealers try to sell during a car purchase. I understand they say it's good for 5-years, but if applied more frequently, how's that compare to waxing? Is their table about halfway down the page that makes comparisons to Silicons, Polyethelynes, Resins, and waxes truly BS?

Can any chemical engineers or painters comment on this? Does sound to good to be true of course...

PTFE, as far as I know, is the same stuff that makes no-stick frying pans no-stick... ie Teflon. But Dupont has the name "Teflon" trademarked, so everyone else has to call it "PTFE". And Dupont can call anything they want "Teflon", even though it may not be PTFE. They own the name and they can use it as they see fit.

Anyways... PTFE has to be baked at about 700 degrees to stick to a surface, so I don't know what value is in adding it to a paint protectant.

Dupont put "Teflon" in thier wax but, as stated above, who knows what compound it actually is. If it is actually PTFE, how much - a thimble?. Probably just a marketing gimmick.

What's kindof funny is that I swear DuPont used to say that adding PTFE to car wax showed no significant improvement in protection... but like anything else, gimmicks go in phases, so maybe this is one of those phases. Or maybe there's some other magic that's going on. But 5-Star Shine seems to be a bunch of marketing hype.
