Just finished giving the ol' GT a quick wax for an upcoming Mardi Gras parade. Clay barred it before and am STILL amazed ad how smooth it comes out and how easy the wax comes off.

Bottom line. If you haven't tried it, do so now. You'll love it.

I know. I'm preaching to the converted. . . .

Yeah even though its not the most fun you'll ever have cleaning your car, it definitely gives a great result. To all those who haven't tried a clay bar you need to give it a try and see the difference.

Wal-Mart, Autozone, etc. Get either Clay Magic or Mother's. Directions and the necessary stuff to do the job will come with it.

so at what point do you use the clay bar? Do you wash it, dry it then do the clay bar and then wax it ...or do you do the clay bar 1st and then wash it...or when you use the clay bar do you not have to wax it after?

"Usually", you wash, clay bar, wash again, wax.

wash it first. The claybar will get too much grit in it if you don't.

you should wax afterwards

I wash, clay bar, cleaner, polish, NXT wax. Do the whole nine yards four times a year and my paint looks brand spanking new and reflective as heck!

Depends. If you drop it, it is toast. So don't do that! If you get your car good and clean before you clay bar, it'll last quite awhile. The one I have I have been using for about 1.5 years now. Depends on what is on your paint.

A good tip is to tear off a piece of the clay bar and use it until it is "wasted" then tear off another piece, repeat. I have found this makes it easier to use since I end up with one very thin, wide piece of clay that is easier to handle and moves over uneven surfaces easier.

Also, nothing makes you feel quite as dumb as dropping your clay bar, (eventually you will), and this way only a piece is toast instead of the entire bar when this eventually happens.

Good idea, J! I hadn't thought of that. It takes much longer to "wear out" the clay bar than I had initially thought. Stuff lasts pretty long.

I claybar'd the front and hood of my 05 GT and 02 Coup yesterday, followed up with step 2 and 3 of Meguire's Deep Crystal and wow! It rained this morning, but when it clears I will do the roofs and door panels next.

I have been lax in putting in my hood pins, but now that the hood has been done for the spring, I can drill some holes!
