So I got my car rust proofed in November using an oil based spray, and took my car to the car wash the other day and found that the car soap wasn't strong enough to lift off the grease and grime left by the rust proofing spray.

Is it ok to revert to dish soap to get all the grease off for 1 wash, or will this take off any protective coating that might be on the paint?

 

If it were me, I'd dishwash it, claybar it, then reseal w/ 2 coats of a Zaino type protectant. Spring is coming, do it right IMO.

 

I use Dawn dish soap if I'm starting from scratch with detailing, as it will strip off old wax and is more agressive than regular car washing soap. Just be prepared to wax it afterwards.

 

As long as you don't use dish wash soap every time you wash your car you'll be OK. If you're looking for a really long term protectant, check out Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0.

 

All of the above is good advice. I'm a Zaino guy myself.

 

Dish soap okay for when you want to take off the old wax. Unless something has changed with more recent finishes the only thing that happens is it removes any wax that might be on the car.

 

Original Blue Dawn, then clay bar and polish then wax. We use Blue Dawn to strip before starting all details.
