Detailing Questions

I have a MCA V6 Race Red Mustang. The car is 3 months old and has never been detailed. My concern is what products to use. Here is a list of my concerns.

1: Matte MCA stripe along sides. Do i tape off stripe to wax? Can i use Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer or NXT 2.0 To wax over stripe?

2: Bottom black moldings/mirrors and around winshield wiper area. Do these parts fade over time if not treated? Do you recommend using Armor All or some other product?

3: Headlight/Tailight Lens. My last cars lenses turned yellow. What should i use to keep them clear? I have a 3 part headlight restore kit that comes with a spray on protectant.

I appreciate any feedback. I have searched the internet for answers with mixed suggestions. So, I am here to ask the experts on this forum who actually own this car.

1. I put blue masking tape over stripes, especially on customer cars. I've never hurt stripes by getting sealant/wax on them, but I don't like taking chances.

2. I use Mothers Back to Black on black trim. Keeps trim looking nice & dark. I also tape off trim when applying product.

3. I wouldn't worry about your lenses turning yellow anytime soon. Shouldn't happen for a few years. Those lens cleaning kits by Mothers, Meguiers, 3M all seem to work pretty well.

Meguiars just came out with a new headlight protectant for 2012.

There's some permanent products that go on the trim and do wonders at protecting it and they last virtually the life of the car. I can't remember them right now.

For now I use 303 aerospace protectant for the trim. Great srudf

+1 for 303 aerospace. Awesome stuff. Armorall is greasy and attracts dust.

Try turtle wax ice. It can go over all your black plastic and stripe also. It goes on really easily. You may need to apply more often, but you wont have to worry about discoloring your black.

I wax over the stripes on my BOSS and have had no problems.

Give it a very thorough wash and then I would clay the car because even though the car is not old, there will be a lot of contaminants from shipping and sitting at the dealer.

Apply a paint sealant. My current favorite is Wolfgang 3.0 Deep Gloss paint sealant. I would then top it with a coat or two of high quality Carnuba wax. DP Max Wax is considered to be very good and doesn't break the bank to bad.

There is a whole lot more you can do as far as polishing if you have swirls and light scratches you want to remove and I suggest starting on the forums if you are interested in that. Detailing forum

Be careful though as detailing can be an expensive and addicting hobby. My Flex Polisher was $320, I have $200 to $300 in pads for the polisher, and probably a $1000 tied up in products as I keep adding new stuff to try. I started out saying I would never spend $100 for a tub of wax and thought people were crazy who did and I just bought a can of Wolfgang Fusion wax for $175 because people have had such good results with it on Kona Blue paint. After using it, I feel like it was worth the money.

I suggest you sign up for autogeeks forum as they give free shipping to forum members, offer member only deals and it costs nothing to join. Also watch their buy one get one sales every week as they change every friday and I have scored some good deals there. They also have a Vip email club you can sign up for and get good deals through. The current VIP sale is a $100 gift card for $60 and I almost never have an order less $100.

It won't really mess it up, it's just hard to get it all off the edges...
