I need to wash my truck and was wondering what you use to was your motor.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

Gunk engine cleaner is something that I know of. We need to get some of it and clean the motor and chassis on my dad's 93 sometime.

 

I've heard that the degreaser "Simple Green" is pretty good too.

 

Thanks I just spent 5 hours cleaning my truck and it starts to rain on me.

 

I washed and waxed yesterday and it's raining today.

The rain beads up nice on the wax though

 

It started to rain before I got the wax on so I pulled it into the garage and waxed it in there

 

i used simple green. make sure the engine is cool, and spray it down lightly w/ water. then spray simple green and let it sit for a few, then use elbow grease and start cleaning. then, hose down lightly again.

if you get some of the simple green on the black plastic where your windshield wipers are, it will turn white. so you may need some Back To Black for that.

 

That purple power stuff you can find at Walmart and auto stores is the best crap I have ever seen. The 93 gt I bought looked like it had never been cleaned under the hood. Svopaul sprayed it down with some of the purple power, let it set for a minute, then hosed it off with water. No scrubbing what so ever, and it was amazing the difference it made.

I'll have to try that sometime. My engine was detailed before I bought it (the place I bought it from has a detailing shop) so its really clean for now but I'm sure it will need cleaned in the future

 

Picked up some simple green today... I've never detailed under the hood other than a simple wipe down. Is it necessary to cover anything up before doing this? Do you just use the simple green on the engine or the whole engine compartment?

 

You should probably cover up your distributor. I used aluminum foil to do so on my 86 LX when I cleaned the engine.

If you have access to a heated pressure washer, thats what will do the best job..

Used Simple Green yesterday. I put a plastic bag over my battery and over my air intake. Sprayed some on everything and washed it off with my garden hose handle grip nozzle. Dried off everything, a warm motor helped a lot here. Started her up, no problems.

Made a point not to spray up into the holes on the fuse/computer box or anywhere it looked like it would be a problem.

Looks real good now.
