A quick one...hopefully...for some of the car care experts out there.

As I've been getting to know my new car over the last day, I've noticed some small "dull" areas on the exterior. They don't feel like scratches, I don't think. It feels more like some kind of dirt is "smudged" on top.

I want to head to the local Checkers tomorrow to pick up something, but I honestly don't know what to get. This is my first car in about 10 years.

Any advise, do I just just a chamois or terry cotton to "rub" them out, or should I be looking at some kind of product(s), as well?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Ken

is there any difference in touch when you run your finger over the "smudges"? is it the same smoothness as the unaffected areas? jackg 90seville97k

Hopefully it's just dirt or some foreign substance.
Try Dawn dishwashing soap on the area.
If that doesn't do it then you will need to get a mild polish.
Meguiars makes a scratch remover (ScratchX) that works pretty well.
Either way, apply your favorite wax for protection when you are done.

No. Not quite as smooth. There's a little more friction going over the smudges, but it clearly feels like they're on top.

Any thoughts?

I would just wash it, then as Mike said use Meguirs wax and it should come out.
