Question Which car wax/maintence products is best for a new Mustang?

This is a really basic question...

I just got my car from a the dealer on Wednesday and I know I should definitely put a coat of wax on the brand new paint soon. I've heard about Meguairs and Mothers, but I'm wondering what I should use on a brand new Mustang.

Here are some basic mantainence questions:

1. What wax do you guys use?

2. What kind of soap do you recommend to wash it?

3. What should I use to clean the vinyl and leather seats that won't make it greasy or dry it out?

thanks ,
~Ray

I use Mequairs NXT on the exterior, and other Meguairs products for the interior leather, pleater, and vinyl .

Check out the Car Care section of the forum where you'll find all the wax and polish debates you'll ever want to read.

Mr Clean AutoDry car wash. Meguiars NXT wax. Lexol for the leather.

When washing the car, make sure NOT to use a sponge - it will trap the dirt on its surface and you will rub swirl marks in the clearcoat because of that. Instead use chenille pads or mitts - the dirt is sucked up into the fibers, so less chance of swirl marks. Also, constantly rinse the mitt to get that dirt out of it. Swirl marks are your enemy, but they can be avoided.

As someone else said, check the car care section. Taking care of your new S197 is really no different than taking care of the previous SN95 generation.

The Chenille wash pads and mitts are awesome! There's a lot of surface area for the grit to float into and prevent it from scratching the surface. Make sure you use a Grit Guard for a 5 gal bucket. It prevents dirt/grime from floating around in the bucket and recollecting on the wash mitt. Use plenty of water for lubrication.

For the detergent, I normally use whatever cheap stuff I can find. Blue Coral Wash N Wax, etc... I am going to try out the purple SuperTech wash n wax soon. The way I see it, you want a detergent that can foam up very readily and wash away grease/grime very readily and perhaps give a light layer of carnauba wax that would stay put in areas that do not get a lot of exposure to light (door jambs, etc...)

The carnauba is so weak/thin that any wax or polish will easily remove it.

Klasse All-In-One followed by a few coats of Klasse Sealant Glaze. Doesn't do anything for the chips in the paint, though.

Motorcraft has small brush/pen applicator touch-up paints that are a very close match to the factory paint. I found the pen works well for small paint chips. I believe the Motorcraft paint is just outsourced to Duplicolor who make the same thing w/o the motorcraft label.
