California Car Duster
Just picked one up a few weeks ago and I'm liking it a lot. Its worth the 11 bucks I spent on it. Who has one and how long have you been using it? Do you ever wash it? The package stated the dirtier it gets the better it works.

I stopped using mine, having a black painted car scratches are so noticeable. Each to his/her own but I think if you used this for very light dust more like (lint partials) it would be okay. But for day after day road dust I can't buy that saying "It gets better the dirtier it gets", sorry. I'll error on the safe side folks. I mean how can that make any sense using the same dust and dirt accumulated brush over and over again NOT! You may as well take 320 sandpaper to you paint.

it's not really for getting off road grime, just little bits of dust from the car sitting in a garage, or a light drive, it's kind of a fine line between being able to use it, and needing to wash the car, I've heard that the dirtier it gets the better it works, that confuses me, like jed said

Mine works pretty good for light dust. I have a 50 mile round trip for work each day and the back end seems to pick up a lot of dust/dirt. All the duster does for that is move it around.

I used the Cal dusters for years and the only problem with them is the baked on wax they use would streak my dark cars/So I would use detail spray after. Now I use the new microfiber detailer works as well and does not leave streaks. Also if you wash the cal duster you remove the baked on wax and it does not work anymore.

I use the duster, then the detail spray.
The microfiber sounds better, but knowing myself I will probably use the spray after it anyway.

If the dust starts to smear, STOP. Your car needs a washing. One pass on the duster is all it should take. It it takes 2 passes to take the dust off, your car is too dirty.
As for the wax streaking on your paint. Take a newspaper and lay the duster on it. Leave it for a day or two. It drys up some of the excess wax. That should take care of the streaking problem.
The duster doesn't stratch unless you put pressure on it. You should only glide the duster of the paint.
Also, DON'T USE A MICROFIBER TOWEL TO DUST YOUR CAR. That WILL scratch the paint. Microfiber towels should only be used on a clean wet/damp surface.

Whoever is using one of these to clean the dirt off their car is nuts! That isn't what its meant for. Just dust from sitting in a garage, or the dust from the air, when a car is parked at a show. And NO PRESSURE on the duster should be used. Just glide it.

The dusters we use here at ASC, Inc. are washed regularly in a woolite solution and then air dryed.
The wax is still there, Woolite will not remove it, they do get dirty, they can scratch, and they are replacable.

Had mine for three years. As most have said, it's a DUSTER, not a cleaner. I dust my ride off each day; no scratches that I can see but then again, my eyesight sucks.

I've had mine for at least 10 years and although it was only used on a limited basis for several years, it works great for a quick dust off after my car sits in the garage (mine is not a DD, so it does sit sometimes for week or 2 at a time collecting dust). I have never used for "cleaning", but for a waxed/clean car, nothing works better to get all the garage dust removed just before a day of fun!
And I have yet to clean duster, but it still is working great for above mentioned task.
