California Car Duster
Just wondering if anybody has had any bad experiences with one of these. I have one that I used on my old car and since my 05 is black, it's a nightmare to keep clean! But, I've gone the Zaino route and am only using 100% Made in the USA cotton towels on her.
Please let me know if you've been a long-time user or if you've ever had any problems with one.
note that I know that it should be free of any debris before using on the car

i use it occasionally on my black car, but to be honest, the paint is going on 13 years old, and I'm the 3rd owner so it has a lot of tiny marks already so I can't tell if it's adding new scratches or not.
I will say it's great otherwise on a black car for getting that darn pollen off!

My previous car was black and I used it almost daily. never got any scratches at all using it, use it on the mustang also. If you do a good wash/wax job and dont get her wet, can go a month or so without a wash using the duster. I highly reccomend them. by the way my previous car was brand new also so I would have noticed any slight scratches to the finish and never saw any from the duster.
I use this on my Black 05...works great...but I think it is causing some minor swirl type scratches, not major ones. They should buff right out. Pollen is really bad around here, I get a nice layer of it daily.
I have a darker color vehicle and do notice some swirlmarks and light scratches in the direction that I pass the duster. But if I then followup with a spray wax, they go away. Also, another tip - buy two. Use one to do the top half - hood, roof, deck lid and upper half of the doors. Use the other to do the bottom half. And don't use it on the wheels. The lower half and wheels have more road dust, grime and brake dust that will definitely scratch your car. Once brake dust gets in the duster, it's pretty hard to get out.

 me too!
Anyhow, I have a black 2005, and I use it quite often, I'm quite pleased with it!
I shake mine out really good after each rub down, so maybe that helps as well....
When you first buy them, the directions state to lay it out on a newspaper for 24 hours to get rid of the excess wax/stuff that picks up the dirt. I did that, and I've had it for over a year, but it leaves "wax" type marks on the Mustang if I happen to brush it at certain angles. Is this normal? It looks pretty stupid having a really clean car with some streaks in the paint at certain angles.

I've got a suggestion for you my fellow pollen season sufferers...from here in the pollen capitol of the South ... leaf blower!!! Works great, no marks and done in a flash!! Just make sure you don't have any trash near the intake area !!

I keep a bottle of detailer in my car so when I spot a streak I spray and whipe it away

I have 2 California dusters---one each for my 1965 & 2005 Mustangs. They work great--no scratches or swirls, although every now and then they will leave a waxy streak which wipes right off with a cotton or terry cloth towel.
At every MCA regional and national car show I have attended, I've seen owners of classic, vintage Mustangs wiping them down with a California duster.
If it's good enough for the classic, it is certainly fine for the daily driver.
