No matter how much I clean my car I can't get the black dust off my rear bumper. Somebody told me it was brake dust from when my car was transported by train.

Any ideas of what to do? My car has never been waxed so I guess that'd be some thing to do. 2 years and I haven't gotten around to that yet!

If it won't come off the paint, and your car was transported by train, it could indeed be airborne metal contaminants like brake dust. What you ought to try is using a clay bar on the area. Any contaminants embedded in the paint will be lifted off--hopefully this will take care of the black dust. Know, however, that claying will also lift off any wax in the area (I'm not sure there would be much left after 2 years, though), so you must rewax the area right after. Clay bar kits can be found at Pep Boys or any other local auto parts stores. Whatever you do, get that puppy waxed soon. Your finish will thank you. Good luck.

EDIT: SPELLING ISSUES

Do you have catalytic converters? If not it could be unburned gas

If the clay bar doesn't work and you are that worried about it just pay to have an exterior detail done and point out the problem area. You'll loose the black dust and get a good wax job out of the deal.

I have had good luck using a product called "Simple Green" on brake dust around my aluminum rims. I imaginie it would work on your bumper as well. smells great too!! Bonus!!

If that fails why not just try rubbing out the paint on your own. Of course youll probably end up having to do the entire car but it'll save you quite a bit of money.

I have a pro detail shop do my car once a year. In the scheme of things to me it's worth it to have them get the deposits and minor scratches out. I just keep it going as well as I can inbetween those visits with my Meguires stuff. That's just me though.
