Title says it all. Has anyone taken the ole sandpaper to their paint yet? I can't stand orange peal and would LOVE to sand it out then buff/polish it back to perfection. Has anyone given it a try and what were the results?

Also, does anyone know of any issues with color sanding the factory paint/clear coat?

If you do it right, there will be NO swirl. And not orange peel. And no rough paint. Just a perfectly flat paint that reflects like a mirror. I've done it on smaller projects and it IS time consuming, but the results are amazing.

Thanks to the EPA, it is just about impossible for the factory to apply paint without some orange peel. Those VOCs that the EPA hates so much are necessary to get the paint to flow out properly. The manufacturers have done wonders with what they have to work with, but the paint is not up to pare with some of the older paint systems.

Heck, how many 5 or 6 year old cars have you seen running around with peeling clear coat? I've seen a LOT...

I don't know how thick the factory clear is, so you could run the risk of breaking the edges.

I presonally think the car will be ok with a claybar and a few coats of zaino. If I ever do have to repaint the car for any reason, i'll definitely put a few coats of clear and wetsand and buff.

 

I plan to order the Zaino master kit the day I order my car. Hopefully, the full works will clean it up enough were I don't think I need to color sand. I hope so...
