Yes. Once it is applied it is 'almost' permanent. As in you would need to have it removed. It's not a simple 'colorform' either, i would have it professionally installed. It looks great, and does a great job. My friend has it on his GTI. You dont even notice it.

It seems to me that I have seen a product like this on a car, and you could definitely see a line between the film and the exposed paint.....and after I saw it, I could definitely feel it. There probably are different grades and costs of this film, as there are with anything else. I guess I will have to explore this a little further as to whether I would get this on the car or not. I like the idea of preserving the factory paint though.....

Will the paint fade at different rates with this clear bra?

It is just clear vinyl. Several manufacturers have started putting this near the rocker panels to protect from stone chips. Volvo puts a strip on lots of their hoods. You can see it, so if you can live with that get it, just remember after 5 years you may want to replace it.

HAHAHA....
FYI...I found some information on it.

3M's Paint Protection Film provides a durable and lasting paint protection for passenger cars, trucks and SUV’s. This high-tech, Manufacturer Approved product is a transparent adhesive film that is computer cut by make and model. This is the same material used by professoinals and is the ONLY paint protection film officially licensed by NASCAR. This saves your vehicle’s beautiful paint from being victimized by stone chips, bug splash, and scratches.

5-Year warranty

· Maintenance free, just wash and wax like the rest of the car.

· Covers the most vulnerable parts of the vehicle

· 99.5% transparent film doesn't affect appearance

· 8 mil thick 3M film is clear-coated w/ UV inhibitors

· Doesn’t yellow, peel, crack, or fade

· Won't harm factory paint

· Can be safely removed anytime.

Is the "Clear Bra” really invisible? Yes. You will not be able to see it standing 5-10 ft away. When you get right up to it you will see a faint line running a crossed the hood. The headlights, bumper, and mirrors will be extremely difficult to find as they run along the edge or bodylines. To those opposed to the faint line on the hood I offer this candid question. What is the lesser of evils? A faint line where the film ends, a black vinyl bra, or rock chips? The choice should be CLEAR.
