Why is this?

Ok we all know why the 2011+ GT's are faster than the 05-09 GT's, but why are the 05's faster than the 99-04 GT's. I know they make 40 more hp but the new edge weighs 3200 where as the 05's weigh in at 3600. Shouldn't this weight difference change the whole game?

Yes but the sn95 produced all of what 20lbs less than the 05? Still I don't see how 40hp and 20 torque can throw off a 400lbs weight advantage. This is what confuses me. Is it the better tranmission? Rear suspension? Or is it the power band? Also to add a come back...awe look at the small underpowered 4.6 DOHC cobra. DOHC and only making 300hp stock awe so sad. :P take that :P I admit that wasnt as good if a comeback as I could have done. XD

Variable valve timing is one advantage the 3v GTs have, peak values in torque and horsepower only tell a small part of the story. Another advantage is the 3 valve layout, those two combined gave the 3v engines better low to mid range power which translates into better average power (or power under the curve if you prefer).

And while I can't remember if I checked, there may have been some gearing advantage as well with the transmission and final drive.

S196s have a redesigned chassis which transfers weight better which translates to better holeshots. And your 5.0 is only faster if you can drive I've buried many a coyote at the track with my wimpy old 3v.

Many factors in determining the cars speed. Most people think it is HP. HP helps but torque is what gets you there. Torque range is more important than the Hp curve. Transmission and gearing also matter. Tires matter also. Of course the number one factor is the driver.

Faster on paper, a driver can be a huge factor especially when there's only tenths of a second between the two cars.

Weight lol I weigh less then you don't all me fat! Regardless though of car weight mine is still faster. Though Iam comparing a 2013 to something that came out in 1997. The only car that can really give me a run for my money is a Shelby or a termi and any FI GT stang. XD that's a big list though I'm sure with all bolt ons the older mach1 and cobras would also give me a run for my money.
