The v6's are nice, but they're just not a V8. It's apples and oranges.

Others say that's bull about the weaker driveshafts. Others claim it was a freak accident that occurs in very minimal v6 stangs and the driveshafts are built to withstand that high speed.
Which is it?

probably not balanced to the specifications required for it to spin that fast. Think of a centrifuge that's not balanced on both sides, it'll rip itself apart in a hurry.
also possible that the welds arent strong enough or that the u joints can't handle the stress

If my 2011 v6 can't go that fast then I sure wish Ford wouldn't advertise it will go 160 on the speed odometer. Just give the v6 speed odometer what ever the speed governor is set too. By Ford advertising such speed it gives people a sense of false security about the vehicle. One thinks they can go 135 because the speed odometer reads higher. Why would the average consumer think different of there 305 hp sports car. Especially when there soccer mom mini van can rock a buck 15 no problem.

I wonder why Ford would make a sports vehicle with 305 hp and not allow it to spin fast enough to handle that kind of speed. I have a 2011 v6 and wonder why Ford advertises the speed of 160 mph in my v6 when the driveshaft is not equipped to handle it to spin fast enough. Heck Ford doesn't even warn its customers about this yet they advertise a much higher speed on the cars factory stock speed odometer. I had no clue my car would not run 140 safely until I started reading these mustang forums.

lets be honest here, of the thousands of V6's that Ford will sell, there may be 5 that try to go 130+. There's no definite that the D/S will snap at 117.3 or something like that, just that they're not rated for 150/160/170+, much like tires are rated. Sure they can probably hold up to faster speeds, but do you really wanna push it? Also, just because the speedo says 160 doesnt mean they ever intended for it to do 160.

Agree its not 100 % the driveshaft will fail, however I expect that if ford is advertising a factory stock speed odometer that reads 160 then my 305 hp sports car should do that. If not, that's okay but advertise the correct top speed. If the top speed on the v6 is 115, fine have a speed odometer that reads 115. When Ford advertises 160 it gives people a false sense of what they think the car can do when in fact it can't come close.

I have no issue with the car being what it is. But the v6 2011 is no Fusion or Edge. Its sheer awesome of a vehicle for the price and power you get. Im just saying I think its a little cheap marketing and advertising trick to get consumers in thinking there car is more than what it is.
