Thumbs up

Ok guys...please dont flame me....
i currently own an 01 subaru impreza and have owned 5 other fords (3 of which were mustangs) and im dying to get back into a mustang again in a year or so, the only thing is that i dont know if i really want to get rid of my reliability with the subaru. with all the troubles with the 05s and some 06s it really makes me not want to buy a newer musang of those model years since i am 20 and need something reliable. plus i need a good honest great quality shop that is like a couple of subaru shops i go to that are incredibly outstanding with no fuss at all. how do you get rid of such a reliable car for a sports car bound to have issues??? also how the heck do you find shops that are honest and reliable with amazing craftstmanship? it seems like alot of shops just want to rip you off! please lemme know!

ps - i live in the sacramento area of CA and cant own more than 1 car at a time.

Well, my 2000 mustang doesn't have ANY problems, nor does my father's '01. Mine would be considered an "early model", and hasn't had any problems whatsoever. And I drive the heck out of it. I would trust in Ford Quality, and just go for it.

And to supercede the mechanics? Do it yourself! Changing the oil and rotating the tires is easy. Even changing brakes is do-it-yourself. These will be the only things you have to do to a new (or even 5 yeard old) car anyways.

Well, my two are just fine, as was the '85 SVO I used to drive. All the Fords I have owned were reliable cars, in fact of all the marques I have owned the FoMoCo products are the only ones that didn't strand me somewhere(knocks on wood). I beat the crap out of my 'ol SVO and she begged for more...well..the shift **** came off in my hand once, but it was just screwed back on.

What are "all the troubles with the 05s and some 06s"? I've had my '05 for 7 months, and have put 14K miles on it, and have had no reliability issues at all. Every morning it starts up fine, every time I drive it it runs perfectly, and I don't hear any strange noises, feel anything weird when I drive, etc.

[font=Arial]Regarding your GT jitters....
If you want to drive a Subaru, keep at it. I hear it's sound basic transportation.
Driving a Mustang is another experience. And you don't have to close your eyes and hope for the best mechanically or service-wise.
I drove my '06 GT across country with nothing but joy to report. And my local Ford dealer is excellent--friendly, skilled, accommodating, etc.
It's your decision to want to be behind the wheel of a mustang.

the SN95 2nd gens i know are fairly solid...im talking about the SN97s....when the 05s came out there were numerous complaints about the drive shaft whinning, i think the same thing about the transmission as well, brakes failing. my friend bought his 05 GT brand new pre-ordered and it had those complications and more that he ended up having a dealer take it back and bought a 03 gt vert....luckily i have a few friends that are ASE mechanics so they could always help me out, i think when i pay off my car and hold onto it for a bit to save up then ill get an 06 GT

Yes, the 05s did have some problems. Any brand new design is going to have issues.

I have an 06 and have had almost no problems. My friend had a brand new Subaru wagon a few years back and he had more problems than I've had.

Lets also not mention that if you come to a car DG, problems with that vechicle are posted more often then their love of the same. I have an 02 SVT Focus, and its down right scary how I have alot of the same problems that where posted on Focaljet about the same car...From my reading on the 05 Mustang,,,,the Mustang doesnt even come close to the same issues as the SVT Focus has/had

The biggest problem I see with the 05/06 Mustang is the downright Buttugliness!

Don't mind him, he's from StangNet, they all go away if you ignore them.

Go for it. Life's too short to drive a boring car. Who knows, maybe you'll have enough for a SE Mustang when you're ready to buy.

We have 6 2005 -06 Mustangs in our club with no problems at all. I say go for it! You didn't say if you want a V6 or GT. You are lucky to live in this area, plenty of Mustnags on the lot and most dealers will deal. They have around 20 here in Napa including Saleens. Again, go for it

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It might be difficult, but I think you could find some that thought the 05/06 was better looking than the previous version. I could be wrong. Doesn't matter, they are all Mustangs.

As far a reliability of the new Mustang, according to recent Consumer Reports, they have historically been worse than average in the sporty car group, but in the past we had Camaros and Firebirds to make the Mustang look quite reliable in comparison.

Consumer reports gives it a pretty good rating overall for the 06 GT
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Consumer...g&car=1&src=vip gives the 06 GT a 77 (putting it in the VERY good category) Im definently going with a mustang as soon as i can, but i need to pay off the impreza, save a bit, then buy i get about the same gas mileage if not slightly better than the 06 GT, same tank capacity and everything! so gas wont be too bad...checked on insurance... and its about 4k from AAA, which is also a good thing im waiting a while to get it lol, id prefer to buy my 06 GT slightly used from a particular dealer i went to previously if i can -- i jsut dont want to have a huge loss in $$$ once i drive it off the lot :P

Quote from that link

Reliability of the V8 version is average, but the V6 model is well-below average.
I guess US reliability is better than German reliability when it comes to Ford engines.
