Vert or no vert?
#1
Thanks for all the feedback on types of transmissions. Here's another question:
The wife and I are going to test drive some Mustangs at a local dealership this evening. It's a great 80 degree day, perfect for a convertible; although I've heard that the verts really sap the power.
Any thoughts?

I was never a fan of convertibles, until I bought one last August 31st.
Pros: Looks cool. B)
The inside does not smell of butt.
On a hot day, just put the top down and the car is instantly drivable.
On a cold day, it is not that cold either. The metal roof is gone and it helps keep the car warmer. :P
Chick magnet.
Cons: $5000 more. :bang:
Noise levels are higher.
Rain. :notnice:
:worship: :worship: :worship: I love to hear my car.

I was always a hardtop fan, but driving my fiancee's convertible has made me consider a change. I don't like the fact that you can't fold down the back seat to get to the trunk, but its a small price to pay for the toples look. Also, the top is a PAIN to keep clean and you won't have that convenient little compartment for your change since that is where the top's control button is.

I hope loss of the "change compartment" doesn't sway your decision.
Myself, I've test driven verts. They are awesome. Nothing like having the top down. If you haven't done it yet, I highly suggest it.
However, I'm a hardtop guy, period. There are a lot of advantages. IMO, a hardtop also looks better especially with the roof up. Noise, theft, leaks, loss of headroom, increased weight and a reduction in chasis stiffness, loss of fold down seats, I live in Canada = snow and 8 months of winter (not really) etc. etc. are the major ones.
But I'm sure the vert guys can agree that you tend to forget all of that when its a hot sunny day and you're crusing along your favorite strip.

I used to think theft was a major problem with convertibles, but if someone wants to steal your car, or system, they will steal it hardtop or convertible.

Having owned a 94 mustang vert while living in AZ, it was really fun "at times" owning a convertible it was fun to have, however, if it's HOT outside, it's not that fun having the sun beating down on you. The convertible top was hard to keep up, and the chasis really flexed at times going over bumps, and driving above the posted speed limit
IMO I think when the top is down the stang looks sweet, when the tops up...soso IMO. That's why I recommend a hardtop, rent a mustang convertible on a long weekend to get your fix.

After owning my convertible for 2 1/2 years, there's no way I could go back to a hardtop. Of course it all depends on the climate where you live. Alabama has a nine month or longer convertible season. B)

My point exactly. If someone wants to steal your car, they will find a way to steal it. If someone want something inside your car, they will find a wy to steal it. If they don't cut the top in your convertible, they could smash a window on ANY car

oh i understand that, but i have a feeling ganking something from a vert looks more promising to a theif, because it's easier to get into and doesn't make as much noise.

I test drove a 04 gt vert yesterday!! It was great. I had not driven a manual in a long time and had trouble finding 3rd LOL. I am still not sure if I want a hardtop or convertible. I got alot of stares and my kids were so excited when I picked them up at school in it. After test driving the GT I didn't bother testing the v6, wow the power was great and the sound was cool. I also forgot to put sunscreen on and my arms are sunburned LOL.
