Your aquaintance broke the law. The speed limit was 65 and he/she was going 105 mph. As for the police letting him go because he knew him, I think that is wrong. All people should be treated equal in the law. What applies to me applies to you. On your other point on how easy it is to go 100 in the stang, yes that is true. But when you go speeding you need to take responsibilty for it and accept the consequences. Also remember that sometimes people speeding kill and injure other drivers that are not speeding. So be carefull out there.

No, but only because this:

[attachmentid=39434] (145 mph)

was legal where I did it.

Germany rules!

Honestly, if the road was really deserted at 4 am, the cops should have just written him a fat ticket. Jail time I think is going to far, whether it's the law or not. He was only a danger to himself on that deserted highway, had there been any sign of traffic jail time would sound reasonable.

I totally agree, if the road is deserted than who cares? Cops shouldn't automatically just take someone in because they break 100 mph because the whole purpose of the speed limit is to keep people from killing others. If there is no one around to kill than what good is the speed limit?

Here is the deal: If the cops were there to write him a ticket, then the road WASN'T "totally deserted". Period. Which means he WAS putting other people in danger. He should have went to jail... And yes, everyone SHOULD be treated equally under the law. It will never happen. But it is a good idea!

Cops hiding and setting speed traps, well I honestly think that's pretty dishonest and sleazy, partly why it's illegal in CA. So how would he know that the cops there if he's hiding?

I got a ticket for 98 in a 35 zone but got it reduced to 49 in a 35 zone. Happened when I was 18, almost forced by parents to sell the 69 Mustang I had at the time because of it. Still have that Mustang but now I am a lot wiser about respecting others and not driving like an idiot on public roads.

I'm waiting for the 2 people who checked in the "yes" block to respond and chime in on their story.

People that should go to jail

Cell phone users

women drivers

drunk drivers

People that should be left alone

Responsible speeders (in fact i've AVOIDED accidents by accelerating up to high speeds and getting away from the drunk cell phone type driver.
