stopped for speeding

I was driving home yesterday, and was at a stop light.
I had a lot of open space between me and the cars at the next light, about 10 blocks away, so I opened it up.
I was just about ready to shut it down when I saw a law enforcement vehicle pull into the road coming towards me.
I looked in the mirror and saw him whip around, so I pulled into the turn lane, pulled off and parked, and he pulled up right behind me.
Turned out to be a CHP, but in an all white car.
I didn't know they had those.
He came up to the window and said "the speed limit is 40. How fast do you think you were going?".
I said "faster than that".
I didn't want to come right out and say 65-70.
He took the usual documentation and walked back to his car.
Then a Sheriff pulled up and they talked for a bit, occasionally looking over at me and chuckling.
The Sheriff pulled away and the CHP asked me if everything was current, then said if it all checked out he would just give me a warning.
He came back and said "slow down. Next time you'll get the pink".
I thanked him and apologized, then drove off.
Must have been my lucky day.
Should've bought a lottery ticket.

I've found that if you handle things exactly the way you did and have a good driving record, you will most likely get a warning at most.
Years ago, I saw a small town cop coming at me from a distance. I actually stopped before he got to me so he could turn around to pull me over (I knew he had me).
He started making up reasons why I might be speeding on his little road and gave me a warning.

Yeah, I really try to pick my spots carefully for gettin on it. If an officer is just cruising and they pull you over you can get off on a warning alot of times by having your docs ready and being curteous, but if he's on "speed control" duty, i.e. radaring etc. your probably gonna get nailed.

I wish I could be as lucky as you gentlemen, I've never been pulled for opening it up, though I almost was, but both times I've been pulled, I handled it that way and got a ticket

I didn't have that kind of luck on my first ticket. I was driving my explorer on a little small town back road, it was about 11:30 at night doing 56 in a 35. The cop was coming at me and I was really paying attention, he turned it around on me, asked the usual questions then gave me a ticket. It was the first time I had ever been pulled over for anything and I don't even get a warning. But luckily I knew some of the right people and got out of it. But if I ever get a ticket in the mustang, if I ever get it, my keys are pulled and back driving the explorer.

21+ isnt likely to be given a warning, expecially in a 35, if it was 21 over in like a 55 or 60, then it might be easier to get a warning
