Sometimes the Gods of Driving just don't favor you
Despite a fair amount of rain and some hot days here in NJ, the weather has been really conducive cruising topless this season. I've been driving my Mustang every possible chance, even if it's just running to town for a pack of smokes. It'll rack up some miles before the winter.
But every once in a blue moon, I feel like I'm just learning to drive. Yesterday must have been a blue moon. Sloppy throttle control, missed shifts (no grinding gears thankfully), braking too hard....even stalled it twice.
I just wasn't at one with my Mustang.

I've been grinding going into fifth lately. Just not quick enough with my shifts... Foot and hand going at two different tempos.
Some days I feel like I'm a novice and other days I nail every shift - smother than an auto. Would be great if I could he consistent...

been there done that. I think driving standard requires skill and concentration, at least for autos with a little power. Also I think Mustangs have what I term "notchy" shift linkages. Of course there is the possibility that I just can't drive "stick" properly....

You're not alone. I have my days too where I can't shift smoothly. On other days I am flawless and feel like I could compete at Indy. Must be how well you slept the night before or sometimes even different footwear. I seem to have a favorite pair of sneakers for the GT.
Its funny you guys mention this. I had one of these days a week or so ago. It was bad enough that my girlfriend asked what was wrong with my car. I was so close to convincing her that the only way to fix it was to get a MGW shifter.
Somedays the its nothing but the fault of the driver but it doesnt help that the clutch always feels soft and vague.

I have those days too. Having another car with a manual transmission only makes it worse.
I love those days when I'm in the zone....top down, perfect weather, clear lanes of travel, winding roads, perfect apexing, third gear @ 4000 rpm when it pulls like a train and the GT500 axlebacks sound just right.
