Question about the tag under my coil
Question about the tag under my coil
I just purchased this 1970 Fastback and did pull a Marti Report. This car was purchased here in Springfield MO where I live and the owner I bought it from was the son of the original owner. The son said that within a few months after purchase, the original 302 failed and the dealer installed a 351 Cleveland as an upgrade. The current engine is a Cleveland and this is a tag I just saw attached to the coil bracket. I am having difficulty decoding this tag based on my research so far. Is there anyone that has records of dealer replace engines on cars this old? I am new to the Mustang world and would greatly appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance.

Welcome,
This Looks Helpful. As Far as Records For The Engine Replacement That Would Be Paper Documents From The Day if Somebody Still Had Them as in Original Owner.

Confusing tag decoded
Thanks, I did already look at that site but the lower codes on mine don't match to any on that list. Mine shows a G-7 for the year and Month and the Engine code on mine shows a K601 and there is no K601 on that list. Then my last digit is an A on that lower line.
Even my G-7 does not make sense since Ford shows the year first and the month second. Since there was no 351 Cleveland (noted at the top of the tag), this makes me think the owner did have a replacement engine installed and maybe this tag is not a typical one when sold new with the car.

The Numbering Order May Not Be 100% on The Resource But I Do See 601 Is Listed as 351C 2V. It Would Make Sense a Service Engine May Have Some Different Nomenclature Vs Engine Supplied in Car. I Would Guess They Orderd a Service Engine For a 70 Mustang But a Cleveland So Any Specs Would Likely Be Same as Cleveland Equipped 70 Stang. If A Carb Tag Number Is Still On Car Is Usually More Specific To Car Engine Would Be Installed in If Service Engine Came With Carb. Do You Still Have That??
I Checked My 65-72 Ford Parts Catalog & It Shows The Same Chart as As The Linked Site. It Also States a 351C 2V Equipped Mustang Would Have Had an H-Code on the Door Warranty Plate. The 302'S Had a Bunch of Different Letters.
A Pic Of Your Door Jam Info if Still There Would Be Useful. If You Did Not Know I Was FORD PARTS For 35+Years So I Am Familiar With Decoding This Stuff But Pretty Rusty Since it Was The Early 80's When We Were Digging For This Kind of Stuff. But Every So Often I Get Out The WD-40 And Start Digging In My Rescued Parts Microfiche From The First Dealership I Worked At!
Happy To Help if I Can. The More I Dig The More Memories Come Back! I'm Like an Old Car With a Bad Choke! Takes awhile To Warm up!
A Nice Shot of The Engine Itself Might Be Useful!
Lmk If You Want to Keep Digging!
