I am a soldier currently deployed to IRAQ, when i was home one leave my wife and mother suprised me with a 1964 Mustang. The previous owner said it had the org 260 V-8 with only 45000 miles on it. What I am wondering is how do I tell if I have a 260 V-8 or 289 V-8.

Thanks for the help

Hi Junior,

I posted a response for you in the other post.

Use the VIN to check for the engine code which would be F for a 260 V8

I thought his question was more as to how to ID it from a 289 to prove the previous owner is being honest, not how to tell what it is supposed to have originally????

Ah.. I see your point. In that case there should be a build plate stamped on the engine block itself.

on a 64' 260,,where the head and eng block meet, there is a front corner that does not match , but 289 does line up
