Ponies on The Run!
Hey, Tom, can I make a suggestion for your side stripe:
Why don't you see if the 03/04 mach1 stripe will fit the side of the S197. You probably have already thought of this idea. But, since you have the shaker decal with the mach 1, I think that the side stripe would be a nice complement to it.

Dang! I thought Leo was the baby here.
That's one of the stoppers for me.. the hole. Believe me, the $100 is chump change after spending $$$$ last year during the mod heydays!

Do you mean wide as in height, or wide as in length.
If length, you can just find out what the length of the 03/04 stripes are, and use that measurement to see how it compares to the S197.
If height: the photoshopped stripe looks to be the same height as the real mach 1 stripe, which is taller than your current stripe.

I don't want the Mach 1 WIDE stripe all the way along the side of the car, that's why I put the same type of stripe, only thinner. I know the fading stripe is wider than what I have now, but since it doesn't go the entire length of the car I like it more.
Leo, is this thread busy enough for you now?
Here's a hint of what the burn-out pics will look like. The marks to the right in the first two pics are of the longest one (a good 15 seconds). Remember, these are line lock burn-outs, so that's why there aren't any stripes down the road - just burnt rubber and divots in the road!

I'll show some smoke pics when I get them.

Took some!
We saved those pics for last. The rubber was all over the rear lower panels and the exhaust, but it brushed right off with my hand.
I should have taken some pics of the road smoking.
You can see the missing road (or you can't see it):

I'm not sure we can do a standing burnout from our manuals... can we?
If you can get off the clutch and on the brake quick enough you can.
You'll put some clamping force on the rear brakes, but it won't be enough to stop it.
Same thing with the automatics, but they can just stand on the brake and floor it.
Or... get a line lock installed! I wouldn't mess with it on this car - on the '89 I didn't have any ABS or wheel sensors (or even a computer) to worry about.

Agreed, although not recommended.
On that car I have a built in rev-limiter at 6000, so I knew I wouldn't be able to over rev it.
Plus, after I got to about 4000 RPM, I shifted to 2nd. Then the tires really start moving without the high RPMs.
