Truck update....
Ya win some and ya lose some....

Seems my beating the truck up this weekend pissed it off royally.. maybe it was the burnouts or keeping the accelerator pegged until it shifted to 3rd at about 75mph... I dunno, but now either the points are burnt, welded shut or plain shot... or the timing is suddenly EXTREMELY off. It won't start and doesn't turn over very well. I supposed if you're gonna find out if something is going to take abuse you have to abuse it first and it didn't pan out. Apparently taking it in high RPMs for the first time in it's 40YO+ life probably not the thing to do. So tomorrow gotta check the points and Distributor, if they're OK it's likely the timing chain ?? Stupid old cars, but I love 'em.

Oh... stripes on hold for this weekend again. Jen's car died today and I had to go rescue her. The elec. fan motor is burnt up and the car is overheating, so gotta work on that this weekend. ****

 

I'm going to wait for the second GEN. When I priced mine it was going to cost me 1K . For sure its a cool device, I'm thinking Apple will come to their senses and bring it down to three models, add a camera maybe even user upgradeable ram? So I may have to wait 6 months to a year.

In the mean time I'll just look at this...

I'm with Jed on this. 2nd gen should offer more features than the current offerings. I can't believe Apple didn't put in a camera! I mean jeez, it's 2010! Even the little Nano shoots video!

And like Danny said, it should have a cam/mic on the front (and the back too) to allow for video conferencing or to just make silly videos like in Photobooth.

But the thing that irks me the most is the need for a seperate 3G account with AT&T, especially to existing iPhone users. I mean most peeps use either/or, rarely both at the same time, so why can't the iPad be an 'add-on' to your current data package? Greedy bastards.

 

Yeah I know... But man was it fun for that short period. We'll see how bad it is this evening maybe this weekend. If it's points it's a $10 fix and a lesson to get the petronix elec point, ASAP... if it's the timing chain then it's more of a PITA but not so much that it's prohibitive. Lesson almost learned. Talking to Jason it seems I can probably get it rebuilt for < 1800 bucks. For a anemic 2V engine it had plenty of power, rebuilding it and upgrading cam, intake, carb, headers should put plenty of life in it... so we'll see.

Jen... 1997 Ford Escort. The fan motor blew the 40A fuse, replace it with another that controls the interior lighting and the fan started working but howling like a ****. So new motor should solve her problem. I hope.

iPad... Dunno, 2nd Gen should be outstanding, but I'm still not the target audience, camera or not. I rarely use the POS camera in the iPhone and don't see how much better holding up a 1.5lb sheet of paper sized thing to get a camera would "make it killer", but that's just me.

Camera in my 3GS is actually pretty decent except for low light stuff. But yeah, I'd like to see more features besides a cam to lure me in. Chris on the other hand will take one right now as is.

 

So which one did you buy?

I can't decide if I should get the 16gb wifi or the 16gb wifi/3g. Although I'm leaning more towards the wifi version as I see myself using the ipad mainly in my house and not as something I'd carry around day to day. Then at the same time I keep trying to tell myself to just wait for the 2nd gen.

Features for OS 4.0 for Iphone, Itouch, and Ipad will be annoucnced today starting at 10am PST. Depending the features announced I might be heading to an apple store to pick up an Ipad.

I am not in the iPad target audience either, so for me, it's not something I need or want right now... Maybe in the future...

You can use your iPhone as a wireless camera for the iPad, which is kind of cool, although, it should have had at least A camera on the thing to start with!

And I actually use my iPhone camera A LOT! It's not the best, but with a few of the Apps out there, you can do some tweaks to the pics to make them look pretty decent... I have taken quite a few awesome pics with my phone... And as they say, the best camera is the one you have with you!

It better be multitasking. That's one thing that bugs the hell out of me, you have to completely exit out of an app to do something else.

Last time I had a problem like that with an old V8 with those symptoms, it was the timing chain.
It was old and loose and had jumped a couple of teeth when I beat on it.
Just fixing the chain was pretty cheap. It depends on what you want to do.

 

Your the one that decided to go waste $40 and a perfectly good morning to get some numbers you already have. If you change your mind your invited of course.

IF I buy one and I bring it over, I know where you'll be Sunday morning with Chris.



Best part is no contract. With that said I just don't see myself using the Ipad everywhere like I do my Iphone.

If wifi only, your SOL until you find a free access point.. or pay some ripoff internet access hourly/day rate.
