Okay, today's plan was to start pulling plugs to see exactly what's going on inside the engine.

I was expecting some fouled out and oily plugs. It would explain the car bogging/missing and clearing, then repeating that cycle.
To my surprise, the 3 random plugs I pulled (2 on the left bank, 1 on the right) were bright white. To me, it indicated a very lean condition. A good burning plug is supposed to be light tan, right?

After inspecting around for anything that looks out of place, loose, etc.., I replaced the plugs, re-loaded my backup Brenspeed tune, and fired it up. It ran smooth so I decided to blip the throttle up and see what happens.

When it hit 5-6k rpms (0 boost, fuel pressure peaking at ~50 psi), the bogg/miss came back.

Here's a short video from the drivers seat. Can't really hear what's going on, but you can feel the 'miss' sitting in the seat.

I'm pretty sure that if I go for a short drive, the motor will once again smooth out and all will appear fine. However, the car is now parked and I'm not planning on taking it out until I can get it to the tuner to get this thing ironed out once and for all.

I've tenatively decided to take it to Adam whenever I can scrounge up the $$$ for the dyno tune.

That's about it folks.

2 more videos..

After the 5-6k hit, this is what came out the tailpipes..

.. and in the engine bay (Shaker removed to check out all the stuff underneath and making plug removal easier).

Bill I wish I knew what it could be. At first I thought that it might be because high IAT temps could be pulling timing.....

If the plugs are white then yeah that points to a lean condition. Jeez I really don't know. At least give Adam a call and see if he has an idea. You have a laptop, then maybe datalog a run around the block and hit it only until it boggs then idle home. That might help you diagnose it with Adam ??????

Just a guess.

Dude in the meantime get a rubber chicken and start swinging it or something. Your luck on this is beyond bad. How the hell does this happen to you. Too much has care has been spent with your car for this **** to be happening.

I agree, anything short of a perfect tune = bad.

And yeah Brian, I can't believe the luck.

Like I mentioned, I'll be seeking Adam's advice and services when I can. I hope no damage has been done since I never went WOT or full boost. And my last 6k stunt was with no load. Hope my forged army survived the lean attack.

The car is drivable (when it decides to run smooth again), but I'm not taking any more chances with it and will leave it static until I take it in.

FOOTBALL

Anyone see the ending to the Charger/Panther game. Talk about heartbreaking loss.

Brady out for the season.

Glad to see Favre did alright although one of those TD's was real good luck.

Can't wait to see the Pack play tomorrow night. George's Raiders play tomorrow too.

No opinions guys?

Bill as you probably figures out get the TR into the hands of a tuner expert. No more visits into boostland until you know exactly how your A/F is behaving at different RPM levels and loads. "Seat of the pants" testing is not advisable in my opinion. Forged internal are strong and can take more abuse but they can fail berfor you know whats going on. So no more Wattson! You mentioned that your centri's housing on the output side gets hot, it that normal for centri? Heats not your friend when it comes to intake air temps. Not being intercooler lessens your margin for error. I'm sure if you get this in the hands of Adam he can diagnose all those issues you have been experiencing.

The Santa Margarita Show.

Great turn out today, Santa Margarita FORD in a nice dealership! I won 3rd place, it was a tuff category they placed all "signature Stangs" in one big CAT (Roush, Saleen). I'll post a few as a tease in my next post.

Leo- No killer videos just yet, hopefully soon though.
On your 'skinnies' idea, I wouldn't. They'll come a time when realize that you're spending a good amount of greenbacks just to lower your 1/8th mile time by a few tenths of a second.
It's like when I used to cycle. I'd spend a few hundred bucks to shave off several grams off the bike only to realize that I could've went on a diet for free.

Jed- I'm just looking forward to the day when I can drop the hammer at will and not be afraid of breaking something.

Please, you've saved that much money in fuel costs by not driving your car for the last 5 months. That's chump change to you Californicans.
