Being a Mustang guy has really paid off! When my wife and I got married, we got some really cool gifts from my Mustang club members--housewares, free meals, etc. One of our members (390 4spd on this board) is a jeweler and gives me great prices on jewelry. Last night while I was out, I passed a blue '66 coupe broken down on the side of the road, so I stopped to help. We had to call a tow truck and I just hung out and talked to the guy while we waited. Turns out, he's the son of the best florist in Birmingham. We weren't 100 yards from the flower shop, so we walked over and he gave me a dozen pink roses for free to give to my wife for Valentine's Day. So for Valentine's Day, I got a great deal on jewelry and a dozen free roses, both from Mustang guys!

No, it was in Homewood. Nice looking car though--sapphire blue with white stripes, a Shelby front splitter and hood and American Racing Torque Thrust wheels.

I've noticed that since I bought my Mustang 3 yrs ago. I get a lot more attention from women. I have a girlfriend so I'm not actually looking for the attention. But it's always nice to be noticed by the opposite sex. I think it helps too that the car is black. Women seem drawn to that color more. Of course I used to drive a beige Hyundai Excel hatchback so I'd never get noticed in that car. Just never thought it'd be that dramatic of a change. Heck, I'm still not used to the attention.

It pays to be a Mustang guy when looking for hard to find parts. Even when Ford no longer has the parts. It does not matter how old and unloved the model, someone will have the parts in stock, usually new original, or they will fabricate them. They are not hard to find either. There are all the catalogs, but also an amazing network on the Internet can find almost anything quick.
I wonder if salvage yards have a rule of thumb for which wrecks to keep or recycle and which to send to the crusher?
Obviously, it pays when you want specialty parts for mods as well.

Yep. Had a cool experience this weekend.
Last week I picked up a 91 GT. It had 15x8 Welds on the back, and 15x6 Welds in the front. The guy I bought it from said it had Ponies on it when he got it a couple of months ago, but his friend talked him into switching the wheels with the ones on another Stang he had.
Anyway, the tires on the car were beyond shot. I couldn't get traction on dry pavement in normal driving conditions. Ok, well maybe I gave it a little extra goose here and there. I did just get the thing.
I was at the local tire store, trying to figure out if I was going to buy some ponies real soon, or just try to find some tires that would work well with the wheel set-up on the car.
In walks this guy asking where the owner of the Mustang in the parking lot was. I spoke up. He just wanted to invite me to a Mustang show this weekend. I made the comment that maybe I could find someone with a set of ponies there.
He says, I've got a set. I'll sell them to you for $400. I mentioned that it would be cool if I could work out a trade. He said OK! I followed him to his house, threw his wheels in the back, went and got some tires, hauled the old ones back to his house and dropped them off.
I just thought that was really cool of him. Things like that just don't happen to me every day.
