Naive question

Why is the '15 Mustang refered to as S550, the current generation S197, and so forth?

Thanks

They refer to the chassis code for the platform for which the car is built on. If you're asking what the numbers or SN specifically mean I have no clue. Just that the different codes refer to a different chassis for the different generations.

Thank you. Now that I know, I can justify refering to the different generations without feeling like a moron!!!!
