Mustang has yet again earned the title of “Hottest Car at SEMA,” and for good reason. With the newest s550 body coming out, ever more attention has been paid to increasing the car’s performance. The aftermarket support for this car is one of the reasons why it’s so widely used in SEMA, something which reflects the demographic and owners of these cars.
The outrageous sets of wheels and tires used on some cars are sure to visually impress, but performance is at the heart of the Mustang’s identity, so it is good to see the 5.0 motor receive the attention it deserves. Also seeing attention is the way you can carve out corners on the road.
Ford’s big attraction to the show though was the unveiling of the 2016 Cobra Jet Mustang, their factory assault on NHRA stock and super-stock drag racing. It’s available from the factory as a turn key car that Ford claims is capable of 8-second passes “as delivered.” You’re not spoiled for color choices or options though. You can have it in white, blue, with or without a wheelie bar, and if you feel so inclined, Cobra Jet graphics can be added. MSRP is a cool $99,990, but interestingly, the engine can be ordered separately.
