I think the gt500's made the most wow factor/impact in recent mustang history, close 2nd goes to terminators.

2007 GT500. I would have voted for the 2010 GT500 but in my opinion this should be eligible for the next decade (2010-'19) and not inlcuded in the 2000-'09 list.

Had to vote 2003 Cobra. Set the bar for the power wars we are living in now.

For me it is the 2005 hands down ! Having had a new 65 , a new 67 , a new 69 and a new 85 Gt , I became rather bored except for the Cobra in 04 which I couldn't afford .The 05 renewed my interest especially when I saw the prototypes at the Detroit Auto SHOW . I even bought my first computer so I could follow the development of the 05 .So for me it is the most significant stang of the decade .

I admit, I don't know jack about anything! My buddy has a 10th Ann '03 Cobra. That thing is one sweet *** car!! It just has an unlimited power potential. His is pretty quick, can go faster if he can afford it. I had to pick the Termi!!
Best pics I have of it:

I got to say the 2005 Mustang. It got me excited about Mustangs again. I loved them when I was a kid but could never get one when I started driving because of the insurance costs plus I wasn't a big fan of the Mustangs of the 80's and 90's. I recently bought a 2010 GT Premium and love it!! after drooling over them the last 5 years.

2003/2004 Cobra.

The perfect balance of looks, performance, power, weight and price.

The 03-04 Cobra set the bar for the GT500 and was by far the best bang for the buck during its short two year run. Though the newer tuners and SVTs may be better overall cars the Terminator was really the one that got the ball rolling and finally stuck it to the 4th gen F-body that had haunted the Mustang for many year.

the 2003 Cobra gets my vote!

I haven't voted... because the 2005 Mustang GT isn't there.

Forgetting all the SE's for a minute... it was the new S197 GT that revitalised the Mustang and brought the muscle car glory years back. We are all still enjoying the fruits of what the 2005 Mustang GT did for the market.

A car doesn't need to be an SE to be car of the decade. I reckon the 2005 Mustang GT did enough on it's own to inject the breed with a new lease of life unseen for years.

The 2005 Mustang GT gets my vote... get it up there!!!!

I have to respectfully disagree. I think the intro of the '05 Mustang helped broaden the market for the Mustang (older fans that liked the 60s cars) but the previous 4th gen was very popular in its own right. The aftermarket and customization of Mustangs was pioneered by the fox body and up Mustangs. The wide variety of customization must have also helped the '05 succeed.

One think I have to admit is that the '05 without question inspired the comeback of both the Challenger and Camaro... so perhaps it may be a little more influential than I give it credit for.

If you look at the sales figures the 05-09 Mustang is right in line with the 99-04 Mustang.

2000 Cobra R

it's engineering was the fondation for many ideas that came to fruitation now. SVT's engineering back then helped laid the groundwork for what we have now.

Pretty hard to pick one. I love the terminators! But the 2010 Gt500 is so awsome. But there was always something about the Saleen PJ edition mustang. It came with a 5.0 motor and had a great balance in the looks department.

Overall significance to keep the Mustang name moving along, that vote is to the 05GT. But as far as most iconic, well remembered, etc, I voted Terminator
