Low Annual Mileage - Oil Change Advice
New to The Mustang Source but appreciative of all the information. I have a question concerning my 2007 GT Convertible. I don't drive the Mustang during the Pennsylvania winters and put about 4,000 - 5,000 miles on it annually. I'm wondering if you would suggest changing the oil every year or change it with a synthetic similar to Mobil 1 and extending the change out every other year/10,000 miles.

Having been the owner of quite a few 'very low mileage' garage-kept cars the general advice is to change once a year no matter what. My oil is still golden hued on my SS every year but it gets changed each year, and with way less mileage than what you are talking about. The only exception I ever made was on a '95 911 I owned that took 12 quarts of synthetic Mobil 1. I went two years on that car but it had all that oil and two filters too (about 6,000 miles total).

My Mustang is a a spring/summer /fall car that I have had for 6 years and has 20,500+ on the odometer. I have my oil (Mobil 1 synthetic 5W30) changed every spring.

I've always changed it twice a year. Once right before I put her away for the winter and again, usually right around the Carlisle All Ford Nationals. Not sure why, but that's my mental marker to change the oil.
*I will race my car at the strip a half dozen times a year, but if I was just cruising around on weekends I'd probably change it once a year. ..but it would be right before putting her away for winter.
