looking for a specific mustang
looking for a specific mustang
Hello everyone,
Hopefully someone can help me. I have been looking for a picture of a mustang I believe is a 67 or 68. I was told it was a special edition. I was told at that time there was only a very very few that were made. I think it was 500 I'm not totally sure. (I feel in love with the car when i was very young. There were 3 of them in the town I grew up in.) Instead of the 3 tail lights on both sides it has 4 of them on both sides. It was not a fastback (i don't like them). It did not have the crome bezal across the whole back. Any help with what year and model it is and pictures would be wonderul. Thank you in advance for all your help.

I believe you're looking for a 67 Shelby?

Although it's not 4 lights, it's three, they're lifted from '65 Thunderbirds.
Not sure what you mean by 'chrome bezel', but these don't have them, just the bumper.
The '68 has the same treatment, but with the separating bezels, and there are '6' lights (but still three actual bulbs inside)

And the low production should be the '68 GT500 KR Convertible? Here's the production numbers:
67: https://themustangsource.com/timelin...8/67/index.htm
68: https://themustangsource.com/timelin...8/68/index.htm
If that's not it, well, it's *really* special, I suppose, like the '68 GT500KR Convertible Hertz one, or the GT500KR Special Model.
Hope that helps!

This just has tail light chrome on a "High Country Special":

It could have been a GT/CS also, I doubt it was a Shelby considering how he said it wasn't a fastback unless he grew up in Mexico and it wasnt a EXP500 since he said there were 3 of them in his town ... Where did you grow up?

I'd say depending on where he grew up it kind of sounds like a Bluebonnet Special, High Country Special, or a California Special. Just based upon the non-fastback description and the taillight description.
