Keeping the Engine Clean...Safe to Hose?

OK newbie question here as I'm not a car tech type....have a 2014 GT and wondered about what you guys do (if anything) to keep the engine looking nice. Is it safe to hose the whole engine once in awhile?

Tips appreciated!

Thanks
Tom

Is it a DD? Garage kept? If so, you really shouldn't have to clean it much. Mine is a nice weather car and garaged when not in use. I wipe down the engine bay completely after each wash and detailing session to remove dust and water spots that accumulate on the shock towers, fender lips, and hood underside....everything I can reach.

But if you drive yours a lot and in all types of weather, I think steam cleaning would serve you better.

I just wipe it down once a week. I'll only hose it if it's been a year or more. On other cars I didn't really care. On this one, it's worth the extra five minutes to give it a good wipe down, especially with all the chrome/aluminum underneath the hood that I've added.

I spray with 303 aerospace, use a brush to clean everything off then spray it down with distilled water. I'll then wipe more 303 on the exposed bits to make everything look nice.

I'm kind of wondering also, is it ok to spray off the engine with a hose?

not sure why every one is asking for hosing down the engine. all you have to do is spray some engine degresser and wip it up.

Spraying your engine down with a hose is a good way to corrode your plugs. Do it to a hot manifold often enough and you can crack it. The dirtiest engine will come clean with degreaser and towels.
