Just bought an 06 mustang gt.

So yeah, like the title says I just got an 06 gr. Can I know what are the things I should be aware of and the things that need to be maintained. As of now, the only thing I hear is when I hit the brakes the brakes make a squeaking sounds, and after shutting the car of I hear a hissing sound as if somethings boiling. But other than that, the car rides nice and smooth.. any advice will be appreciated. thank you!

Congrats and welcome to TMS. How many miles are on the clock? Is it going to be your daily driver?

I once owned an '06 GT. Added some bolt-ons and a tune, maintained it appropriately, and had zero issues with the drivetrain or suspension. Keep your eyes on the vinyl parts on the door, mine began to fall off, the front passenger floor of the cab, and also my trunk would sometimes leak after a very heavy rain too....that's about it.

@air well that's good to hear! My car seems to ha e very stiff suspension which I like cause it makes it feel really sporty. But anyway, inside I hear a boiling sound or something like that when I shut down the engine of the car. And the brakes squeak when applied. Thought you might know a solution to this.

When were the brakes last changed? You may need new pads, you may need new rotors too. If the pads and rotors are good you can apply some brake quiet to the backs of the pads, and see if that helps. As for the "hissing" noise, does it sound like crackling? If so, it's probably just the exhaust cooling off.

@air I'm not sure if the pads and rotors are good or not. I'll check to make sure. As for the noise, yeah its a crackling sound.. I also wanna know if its worth getting a dyno tune.

I would hold off on the dyno tune until you have some significant mods to the car(blower, cams, etc). A cold air intake and tuner would do you alot of good, and probably put a smile on your face. Americanmuscle.com offers combos on those items that are worth looking into.

Sweet! Do you have any recommendations on the cold air intake and tuner? Today, my car wouldn't stay and its either the fuel pump or the filter. Cause it starts but after 10 secs it shut off as if gas was hesitating to get to the engine. But anyway, in the shop now. And at the mean imma do some shopping for my babe. )

Hey Luke click on the cia in my sig, Its suppose to be cai but I've just never fixed it. I run the JLT intake because it was a few bucks less than #1 and darn close to the same output. Currently running AM bama tunes but I hear steeda's tunes are just as good if not better. How many miles are on your car????? Where are you located????

I got 69k miles on it. And I'm in Houston texas, Harris. Anyway, I was thinking of the combo that they have in americanmuscle.com. comes with a cold air intake and bama tuner I would say.

I ran the Steeda CAI with bama tunes using an SCT tuner. They claim 38RWHP, and 30 ft lbs of torque. Now I don't know about the numbers, but I do know that after the installation, I was driving a much quicker car.

Reliablity means stock, regular oil changes, decent gas, change the plugs when it's time (or before), fuel filter, air cleaner.... all the basics of regular maintenance.

Don't don't DON'T track the car. Just drive it normal. Stomp on it occasionally to make sure it 'knows' how.

That's about it. I've got 96K on my '06 GT and she's still doin' ok. I try to keep up on all that, and have 'earlied' a few items such as the fuel filter, trans and rear end fluids.

Like Air said, the cosmetic stuff happens. Door panel inserts, the seat back latch handle, stuff like that, but very dealable. Just glue, or in the case of the handle... they're both intentionally not there now, as I simply don't care anymore.

That being said, a CAI with the right tune, and exhaust woudn't hurt either...

Absolutely. Unless you have another ride and can afford to fix what you break.
