Inexpensive Pioneer Speakers on eBay...
Hi folks,
We're wanting to upgrade the four 6.25" speakers in my wife's Highlander - and I'm partial to Pioneer 3-ways. They typically run around $79 a pair at Best Buy - but I thought I'd check eBay last night just to see what's out there. To my surprise, there are several sets available for really low prices. Low like $25 low! But they all seem to come with a disclaimer (in somewhat broken English) that they may or may not be used and returned. The seller purchased a whole flat of Pioneer speakers - some in boxes, some not - blah blah blah.
Just curious if any of you have ever purchased these "new" speakers like these from an eBay auction... Did they turn out to be alright? Just seems kinda risky without hearing them and all. But the price is so good! Any opinions?

Not all Ebay transactions are bad. But you should be aware of what you are getting into.
The first thing you should do is look at the sellers feedback. Is it reputable? If there is a few negative feedbacks, read them (sometimes the buyer is a jerk). But if there is a lot of negative feedbacks, the seller is probably not worth the money. It would really stink to buy them, install them, and then find a problem. Then you have to argue to get your money back and then re-install a new pair.
Also review his feedback to see what he normally sells. If he doesn't usually sell stereo equipment, then he might not know much about it. Therefore he might not now what he is selling you, and he might describe them incorrectly.
If the auction is written in broken english, that makes me want to avoid it. Sounds like a scam or something form overseas.
Judging by what you wrote, it sounds like a guy who found a flat of speakers (stolen or not??) and figured he would try to make a quick buck. Sounds like he does not even know if they work.
Plus if they are such a good deal, I am sure eveybody would bid on them to try to get that good deal. If I am looking for something and it seems a little fishy, I watch it. If no one is bidding on something that is a good deal, then other people might agree with me that it is fishy.
Like I said sometimes there are good deals. I bought a $1000 digital camera that I have used and taken some beautiful pictures with.
In conclusion, if you are leary of what is offered, Don't Bid. I would rather pay a few extra bucks for something I am comfortable with, and that I know it will work.
