I recieved my Vista Blue '06 GT about a month and a half ago and could'nt be happier with it, the power, sound, handling, visual appeal are everything that I expected and more. No problem, right?
Well, not exacxtly, for the last 5 years my daily driver has been the '66 coupe, which is my first Mustang and I adore that car. Last weekend I was feeling a little guilty about ignoring it, so I spent a day washing, polishing and re-waxing her, she looked great. Time to go for a drive, started her up 5 minutes jockeying the accelerator til she warmed up (funny I don't remember having to do that before) , down the road I go. She feels like a dog, lousy acceleration, front end all over the place when traveling over road irregularities, the old stereo that the tuning **** won't work on blah, blah, blah.
I had always planned on keeping the '66 for summertime cruise nights and the occasional weekend drive aroung town. Now, I feel like I can barely drive the car, I suppose that I had simply ingored it's limitations. Well........, I was thining about and new 4 bbl set up and I suppose I should at least re-bush the front end and get an alignment.
The new GT has obviosly spoiled me, and yes the '66 feels like a dog, but ya gotta love old dogs.

You're right, these cars will spoil you from driving just about anything else. Your old 66 deserves some TLC, she's been faithful all this time. And with very little work, she'll reward you with lots of fun on cruise nights.

Love them old dogs. It's kind of like moms home cooking. Not what you remembered as a kid but make the stomach happy.

The new GTs are the best ever, bar none. I had two '68s which I had restored and upgraded, and they doen't even come close. I sold both and have no reservations or regrets. A friend of mine once told me that the two happiest days with his boats were the day he bought them and the day he sold them. Replace the boats with classics and I found out I felt exactly the same way. Word for word.

I am not knocking those who like and enjoy their treasures, to each his own. It is just my view of reality.

While I agree that the new cars obviously outperform the old ones from the factory, its all in perception, or how YOU perceive the driving experience. I remember how my 'ol '85 SVO drove and I would love to have her back and compare directly to my Mach 1. My buddies 408 Windsor Mustang II is MUCH more fun than either of my cars and I would rather drive his old '77 than my 2003's. Not to mention the thumbs up you get in a more classic Mustang over a new one, especially one that has been well taken care of.

I love the S197 Mustangs and the engineering behind them, but I would take a low mile original SVO or Fox GT before one of them...its just me and probably my age showing too.

I love my 05 GT and our son's 65 289 coupe. In the 05 the a/c is on,cds are playing, seat is perfectly adjusted etc.- but in the 65 the window is down(wind in your hair kind of thing),no music-just listening to the car,and you don't even miss the headrest! Two different experiences, but both are great! I hope I never have to choose!
