ive got an AOD car and if im going down a large hill i put it in nuetral or if im coming at a stop sign i put it in nuetral just to coast
idk why i do it, its just a habit
i dont rev it up and throw it back into drive or anything i just figure why make my engine work if it doesnt have to?
so am i adding and abnormal wear to anything because i shift more often than i have to?

from what I heard on Car Talk a couple weeks ago, unless you're sitting for an extremely long time, like 5 minutes, you should just leave it in drive.
while you are sitting, yes the clutches and stuff are working to provide the power you will need when you accelerate, but when you shift in and out of drive, the wear and tear is even greater as things either bind or slam together somewhat.
also the 4r70w tranny is an AODE trans

so then i guess putting into neutral to rev to show off/taunt then doing back into drive is a bad idea?

Good point. And while brakes are cheaper to replace than trannies, , I wouldn't want to shifting from N to D very often while moving at any significant speed. You probably could do this for a long time without any problems, but why would you want to give up whatever engine braking you get, even minimal. I'd just leave it in gear and forget about about it.
