How Will Ford Evolve the Next Mustang?

The S650 is still a way's off, but there's no time like the present to start rumors about what the next-generation Mustang might look like!

^ that right there.

I think it will retain the three vertical slat type tail lamps, be less sloped in the back, perhaps a little less busy and cleaned up overall.

And there will be a Hybrid. Watch.

Yuck. Might work as a 2 door Fusion but nothing about it says Mustang.

I'd rather see a throwback to this. Well, maybe not.

The first photo looks like a Fusion coupe.

I'd like to see a retro version of the 69 with that vent over the rear fender.

I know you jest, but seriously... I've always liked the overall design of the II's outside, especially the hatch.

If they pulled off a modern version of that? Yeah... I might be in line.

/but why does the line say 'Insane people'...?

The S550 looks like a Fusion Coupe. So that's not much of a stretch. I like the Ferrari Maranello looking one. One one of the designs that looks like it's worth a ****.

Well, this is just the Evo concept from 2011. It introduced the corporate styling that all Ford cars now sport. The first to receive it was the (then) all new Fusion.

That concept was used as a basis for most of the 2015 renderings, too! And all of the renderings collated in the Home Page article are also from before the S550 was launched.

I'd love to pitch in, but I'm gonna need some sauce.
Pure blind speculation doesn't do it for me.

I know it won't happen, wouldn't great to have a gt with a v8 and a flat plane crank with twin turbo v8 be a great start!!!! If they had it I would be happy with a Mustang II body, with a big king cobra decal!

You can't go retro forever, I liked the Evo since the first time I saw it.

I'm over the styling whining. 2005-2014 was 10 years of very retro style, where they milked the best of Mustang history as best they could. There's nothing left to rip off unless you somehow are crazy enough to think the Mustang II/Fox would be a good place to start. It'll continue to evolve and be modern, while keeping plenty of Mustang signature design cues.

As far as non-styling things, here's what I'm realistically hoping for:
  • Weight reduction of at least 400 pounds from going to an aluminum body and a lighter chassis. This is predicated on the hope/belief that the F-Series being all aluminum lowers Ford's materials costs enough to make this possible and keep the Mustang still affordable.
  • Improved crash test ratings, given the IIHS news posted today.
  • The Coyote V8 continues on but gets direct injection for another power/efficiency boost, since the motor was designed for it from the beginning.
  • EcoBoost 4-cylinder gains a bit more power while also gaining MPG thanks to the weight reduction.
  • The S550 brought a far better interior to the car so I hope that continues too.
  • Bring back Chrome Yellow. The current Triple Yellow is ok but Chrome Yellow from the 90's is still the best yellow Ford's ever done.
What do the guys on Mustang7G.com say about this?

Weight reduction is critical if they want to compete with the new Camaro. I've seen a couple of those now in person and they are badass...like the S550's, they look better in person than in pics.

I'd still buy a Mustang over a Camaro, but that new, lighter Camaro won't be beat by Ford unless they put the Mustang on a diet.

^. Completely agree. GM trumped Ford with the smaller Camaro. We need a 7/8 scale Mustang that is 15% lighter.
